(Strip Number 5024, Original Publication Date, 4 October 1988)
Panel 1: As Mike gets dressed to head out, Elly points at him and tells him that it's too cartoon-windy to go without a hat. Since she's telling him to wear one, he hates hats that day.
Panel 2: Since he's supposed to agree that she's his brain, she doesn't care and says that it's common sense to wear a hat. Since Aaron is being hectored about how evil and selfish and cruel he is to value another person's opinion, Mike digs in on not wanting a hat.
Panel 3: Elly reminds us that she's a woman of very dim intelligence by telling Patently Ridiculous Mike that he HAS to wear a hat because she, John and Lizzie do. This is because she fails to see that he sees his parents as the epitome of dullness and stodginess and Lizzie as a crybaby who can't take discomfort.
Panel 4: He proves my point by thought-bubbling "That's WHY!"
Summary: There's a longish period in which Mike wants to avoid hat hair in order to not remind people that without hair gel, he looks like Mirror Universe Linus and kind of hates it. He's inconsistent in this because Lynn isn't angry at Aaron for wanting to impress his friends (and thus totally silence her and kick her in the face and LAUGH at her for thinking that she has a right to an opinion) that day.
ETA: Tomorrow's strip is not the example of ritual Farley abuse that occurs on a Wednesday I expected to see. It's the Elly nailing herself to her cross thing that occurs on a Thursday.
