We begin the Prelude To Summer Camp arc when the Pattersons are blindsided by the fact that the workmen delivered the fridge when no one happened to be around.

(Strip Number 1311, Original Publication Date, 11 July 1988)

Panel 1: We start things off with Freaked-Out John asking Elly what that large box that's the size of a refrigerator marked 'refrigerator' is only to be told that they delivered the new fridge today.

Panel 2: When he asks why they didn't put it inside, Elly says that she was out and they were supposed to come tomorrow so it's not her fault.

Panel 3: Since, as howtheduck reminds us, Lynn misunderstood what the man who delivered her fridge was saying, John wonders how he's supposed to get a 2000 pound fridge up the back stairs.

Panel 4: Lizzie's telling him not to worry because she'll help does not go well.

Summary: My original thoughts were "This strip is, of course, really, really dated. Reason: no one has a cell phone so that they can be contacted so as to prevent things like this." because I was misled by Lynn's declaration that the Pattersons got sweet-talked into buying too much fridge. Delivery men are still wicked hard to reach and we'll see that later in the week when Elly feels bad about interrupting the big strong men because she wants to not eat in the basement any longer.
