We continue on with the theme of John and Elly being fundamentally incompatible when he's actually surprised by her "I'll know it when I see it" concept for deciding what her new kitchen will look like instead of glumly accepting the fact that she's not one to make definite plans that last long.

(Strip Number 1302, Original Publication Date, 15 June 1988)

Panel 1: When an exhausted John says that he simply cannot look at more wallpaper samples, Elly tells him that there are only a few more books to look through.

Panel 2: He then says that he's getting a headache before making the mistake of saying that it would help if he knew what she wanted.

Panel 3: She tells him that she knows exactly what she's looking for. Having forgotten what 'exactly' means to her, he asks her what that is.

Panel 4: Since he'll die never really knowing who he married, her insouciant declaration that she'll know it when she sees it flabbergasts him.

Summary: This could also be part of the 'taking YEARS to get it right' equation: Lynn's own inability and lack of inclination to 'be forward' and 'unlovable' by openly stating a preference that it takes her years to decide on because she again doesn't want to seem pushy by acting too rashly.
