We come to the home stretch of the arc with Ed wondering what his love life will mean after he dies.

(Strip Number 4978, Original Publication Date, 2 June 1988)

Panel 1: We find ourselves at the local cemetary as Elly and Ed decorate Thelma's grave. As he places the tasteful floral arrangement on her grave, he marvels at how peaceful the spot Thelma wound up is.

Panel 2: He reminds Elly that Mrs Baird is buried next to the long-dead Mr Baird before stating how much he'll miss her.

Panel 3: He then points Elly to where his own wife is buried and says that some day, he'll be right next to her.

Panel 4: Ed says that he never had a complicated love life in this world and hopes that the four of them can sort things out in the next one.

Summary: This is one of the reasons Jim and Marian had themselves cremated. That way, they could be in two places at once in case something like this happened.
