Today's strip seems to be all about how the children are supposed to stop wanting things because Thelma died.

(Strip Number 4977, Original Publication Date, 1 June 1988)

Panel 1: We start things off with Elly telling John that she's going to drive Ed up to the cemetery and will be back soon.

Panel 2: Since Mike doesn't know why Elly is heading out, he asks her if she's going downtown and could pick up some videos.

Panel 3: Lizzie pops up and asks her if she could also pick up some pizza.

Panel 4: Since they have no idea why she's heading out and since this convinces her that they have stopped caring about Mrs Baird, Elly gets all kinds of mournful as she makes a Very Deep Observation about how one life stops while the rest go on.

Summary: Show of hands....who thinks that Elly had the option of explaining why she was heading out or ...uh... doing anything else that would not make the kids look like jerks?
