Given Lynn's long-term plan for Molly, it seems to me that today's strip was probably meant as a sort of warning that Michael was scheduled to listen to a mush-mouthed, flat-footed and heavy-handed lecture about how mothers always know best about cool-looking people.

(Strip Number 4953, Original Publication Date, 12 April 1988)

Panel 1: For some reason, Mike and the others come up to Dirk so he can talk about how he claims to have seen the Emetix on the community access channel when Elly's attention was diverted elsewhere.

Panel 2: He then sort of outs himself as faking his knowledge of the group before asking for an autograph.

Panel 3: Dirk shrugs and says "Why not?" when Mike asks for his autograph.

Panel 4: Mike explains away having an autographed forehead by telling Lawrence and Gordon that he didn't have any paper on hand.

Summary: The notes that seem to go best with this mess are ones that whine piteously about how today's children only love dark, scary things so they can hurt their mothers. The idea that Elly might not enter the conversation at all is somewhat alien to Lynn.
