John tells Mike that if he ain't going to put in the effort doing his chores, Daddy isn't obliged to pay him for goofing off.

(Strip Number 1274, Original Publication Date, 6 April 1988)

Panel 1: A little while later, we find John living up to his agreement to pay Mike for sort of doing the yardwork by handing him a two dollar bill.

Panel 2: Mike complains that he pretended to work for over an hour and states that he's getting less than minimum wage.

Panel 3: He has no immediate answer for John's quip about doing less than minimum work.

Summary: We get the sort of answer to this tomorrow when John sets Mike up to become a figure like himself: someone who doesn't know how to just sit back and do nothing.
