We end the arc with Mike telling John that going out for snacks after the game is the part of hockey he likes best.

(Strip Number 4948, Original Publication Date, 2 April 1988)

Panel 1: We find ourselves at the arena watching John tell Elly and Lizzie that he and Mike will be home later because the two of them will be joining the coach and the rest of the team for a root beer.

Panel 2: The coach salutes his team and congratulates them on a great season.

Panel 3: When John asks Mike if he's sorry he didn't win, Mike says that he isn't really all that regretful about the losing season.

Panel 4: This is because he's currently undergoing the only part of the game he actually enjoys.

Summary: Thus ends Mike's active career as a hockey player. While he's going to suit up later on and be used as an excuse for why Elly is addicted to putting too much on her plate, he really ends it as a bellwether for Lynn's bleating that things she doesn't care for should only be about friends and fun.
