Panel 2: Elly comes along and says that it doesn't matter if he does win because it'll be the best game of the season, win or lose.
Panel 3: He asks her why.
Panel 4: She grins a manic grin and says that it's because it's the last game of the season.
Summary: This excess of candor on her part is a root cause of something she doesn't like or understand: her children's inability to trust her to look out for them.
