(Strip Number 6716, Original Publication Date, 6 March 1988)
Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Mike and his teammates standing around looking dejected because the other team celebrates their victory.
Panel 2: Since Mike is like a lot of kids, he came in expecting to win and thus cannot believe that they did get shellacked.
Panel 3: As he, John and Elly head to the car, he blames their defeat on Gordon because if they'd had competent defense, they wouldn't have lost 6-3.
Panel 4: Darryl thinks differently and says that Coach kept playing Robert when he shoulda put Dave in during the last period.
Panel 5: Mike's bitter comment about how their goalie is incompetent and should feel bad for letting six goals zip by him so irks Elly, she ceases to be a silhouette.
Panel 6: Since team sports have never made any more sense to her than making money making music does, she finds this talk of his ridiculous because he should play hockey for the fun and sport of it.
Panel 7: She tries to sell him on good sportsmanship by saying that winning and losing doesn't matter if you enjoy yourself but John only pretends to back her up.
Panel 8: This is so he can undercut her like a jerk and make a bad pun about how it's all how Mike lays the blame that counts.
Summary: Yet again, John's need to be a goofy kid spouting puns gets in the way of Elly trying to set something somewhat like a good example. As for Darryl, I hope he had a happy post-Foob life.
