Panel 1: Since there doesn't seem to be a bus system in their part of the GTA, Elly asks a baffled John how she's supposed to get to work without wheels.
Panel 2: She reminds him that her column has to go to the paper and she's expected at the library.
Panel 3: He offers to drop her column off and, since she's JUST a part-timer, tells her that she can skip work for the day. This, of course, makes her explode because she realizes that one of the few things that makes her feel good about herself probably doesn't matter to him.
Panel 4: He confirms this hunch when he perpetrates the dick move of asking her whose job is more important.
Summary: This is because the clod might fear her rages but he still doesn't take her hopes and dreams seriously. The end result of crap like this is that when he does make sense, she won't listen because he don't take her seriously.
