Panel 1: As he pours himself a cuppa coffee, John downplays the tragedy of not going to the party. He says that he must be getting old or something but he'd rather stay home on a New Years' Eve than go out.
Panel 2: This is because his idea of the ideal New Years' Eve was to spend it with the people he likes best.
Panel 3: She smiles when he says that the people he likes best are right here.
Summary: Again, this is the sort of thing I liked when I liked the strip. It's not too preachy and no one is getting insulted or mocked.
