We go back to the eighties so we can be reminded that Farley abuse is always funny and that the kids never figure out that their parents are capable of laughing.

(Strip Number 1389, Original Publication Date, 23 December 1987)

Panel 1: We start things off with Mike and Lizzie laughing themselves silly because having 'decorated' Farley, he looks like he's wearing earrings.

Panel 2: This turns out to be a mistake because it causes Elly to materialize and squawk angrily about how cruel they are to a dog she has no use for most of the time.

Panel 3: She scowls angrily as her chastened children put the ornaments back on the tree.

Panel 4: She then laughs herself sick as she tells John about the funny thing the kids did to Farley.

Summary: This is yet another example of John and Elly failing completely at life because they NEED their children to think of them as adversaries. The 'rents have two faces and all children are allowed to see is the one with the reproving, unsympathetic scowl on it lest they, I don't know, unleash an era of chaos wherein John and Elly are helpless and can't be listened to or some sort of inane thing like that there.
