about gifts from the heart and such.
(Strip Number 1386, Original Publication 17 December 1987)
Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Lizzie as she tries to get Mike to marvel at the fact that she's got $9.11 to spend on Christmas.
Panel 2: Since Mike's Prime Directive is "make Lizzie feel bad about herself to punish her for being cuter", he makes a point of saying that she can't get everyone a Christmas present with just nine bucks and change. She says she's gonna TRY.
Panel 3: He continues on with his stupid and mean-spirited argument by saying that they're going to be really cheap gifts. (I'll get to why forcing a sermon with THAT line of alleged reasoning is witless in the summary.)
Panel 4: This allows Lizzie to make a preachy point about how nothing is cheap if it costs all she has.
Summary: Show of hands, people.....who the Hell expects a seven year old kid to break the bank buying gifts? What kind of stupid, mean-spirited [boxcar] jerk is going to make her feel like shmutz over THAT?
Oh.
Right.
Mike is a suppurating pustule on the body politic so that's his thing.
