(Strip Number 1227, Original Publication Date, 24 November 1987)
Panel 1: John tells Jean that he can't figure out what's wrong with him lately. This is because recently, it's become something of an effort to drive to work in the morning.
Panel 2: It seems to him that he's in a deep, deep rut that he can't dig out of.
Panel 3: When, he asks her, is the last time he did anything wild, different or radical. She tells him he did something like that last week.
Panel 4: Last week, you see, he wore magenta socks to work. This does not cheer him.
Summary: Different hosiery and a change of scenery and/or companions simply don't do it for John. His cure for the blues has a high performance engine and cannot be used as a vehicle for Elly's crusade to make the world dull, bland and safe and not scare her with sensations that are scary.
