Ed rocks the "screw politeness, I'm old" vibe when talking about how his kids can drink a cool glass of get over themselves if they get in the way of his happiness.

(Strip Number 4877, Original Publication Date, 16 October 1987)

Panel 1: Thelma tells Elly that there is one possible complication: Ed's kids might not want the two of them to be together.

Panel 2: Ed tells the two of them that he's got something to say about that: "Who cares what his kids think anyway?"

Panel 3: Thelma tells him that since he's hearing-impaired, he wasn't supposed to hear that.

Panel 4: He tells her that he hears the things he feels like hearing.

Summary: This willful deafness to and lack of concern with the opinions of random idiots who have no real say in the matter makes Ed human garbage...especially when one contrasts him with Jim and his need to marry someone and curry Elly's favour in the process.
