(Strip Number 4866, Original Publication Date, 25 September 1987)
Panel 1: John reassures Elly that he still loves her but doesn't usually think about it much.
Panel 2: When he starts to tells her that their days are filled with so many other things to think about that love is fairly low on that list, one of the two things that occupy their time starts to emerge when we see Mike's silhouette.
Panel 3: Mike interrupts the gross hugging and other violence to tell them that Lizzie flushed a sock down the toilet. Lizzie says it was an accident.
Panel 4: As we see John snake out the toilet, he asks Elly to remind him of what they were talking about beforehand.
Summary: We are clearly meant to join the target audience in whining "Poor Elly. She will never recapture the love she once knew because she'll be too ooooooold by the time the last of the kids is off the payroll." when we see stuff like this. I choose to join vesper_xeni in saying "Yeeeesh!" because it's equally clear that she's right about Lynn/Elly being as shallow as a raindrop.
