When Elly asks John if the thrill has gone and they're taking each other for granted, his response can be boiled down to the word 'yes.'

(Strip Number 1204, Original Publication Date, 24 September 1987)

Panel 1: A little while later, Elly interrupts John's nap to ask him if he takes her for granted. He mutters HMMM? in response.

Panel 2: She asks a barely-awake man if they've been married so long, the romance has gone out of their relationship.

Panel 3: As he rises, she wants to know if he still looks at her with the same longing he did when they first met.

Panel 4: Since he's still comatose and is also blind as a bat without his glasses, he tells her to wait until he puts them on to ask that question.

Summary: I'm thinking that maybe John has always taken Elly a lot for granted. Can't put my finger on why but there's just something about the man that makes me think that.
