(Strip number 1188, Original Publication Date, 10 August 1987)
Panel 1: Now that the service has concluded, a beaming Elly tells newly-married Phil that she's very happy for him.
Panel 2: When John asks Georgia if he can congratulate her, she looks at the crap on his suit and notices the stench coming off of him.
Panel 3: When she asks what that smell is, he starts to stammer out an explanation about how he couldn't help it because he had trash in his car and there was this dumpster.
Panel 4: Phil tries to save John's face by making a silly joke about how he and the missus could maybe understand if he and Elly were temporarily short of funds and couldn't afford a gift.
Summary: Now that the tension is gone, Phil reverts to the mildly droll figure of tepid mirth he usually is. Also, he's a bit classier than most of the family; everyone else would treat John as if he should still be in the dumpster.
