When Georgia asks who the best man should be, Phil says that he wants someone to prop him up to face the horrors of stability, purpose and mattering worth a damn in the world.

(Strip Number 1121, Original Publication Date, 18 March 1987)

Panel 1: Ungrateful Whiny Infant Phil thought-bubbles morosely about how he's only got for more months of freedom as a single independent male.

Panel 2: He pleads with the audience to sympathize with him because the first of August means the end of life as we know it.

Panel 3: Georgia asks Phil who the best man should be.

Panel 4: The twit simpers that it should be someone strong enough to carry his weight.

Summary: At the risk of causing the Syracuse Troll accusing me of mental illness because he/she/it doesn't especially seem to want to understand how real life and the strip interact, I should think that Lynn needed to believe that Alan was against weddings because she didn't feel like admitting that her strip and her refusal to take his wants and needs into account was a genuine concern.
