While Connie knows that Elly's warning that Greg might raise the roof at proposed renovations is not to be taken literally, she doesn't realize that her pal has just outed John as a skinflint who throws tantrums when home repair is proposed.

(Strip Number 4782, Original Publication Date, 10 March 1987)

Panel 1: As she looks the place over, Connie tells Elly the renovations she'd like. First, she'd like to build onto the porch to expand the kitchen.

Panel 2: Next, she wants to put a pantry where the laundry room is and move the laundry to the basement.

Panel 3: Elly tells her that Greg will raise the roof when he finds out what she wants done.

Panel 4: Elly rolls her eyes when Connie chooses to ignore the fact that Elly means that Greg will be upset at the cost because she's berserk with glee at the possibility that the roof will be physically raised.

Summary: Elly is perhaps remembering (or foreshadowing) the problems she has getting John to spend much on home repairs. Also, Lynn is probably trying to get us to approve of how she steamrolled Rod and the kids into moving to Corbeil.
