Elly's inability to realize what was bothering Annie leads somehow to a reminder that men are oafish clods who want icky sex instead of talking about feelings.

(Strip Number 4772, Original Publication Date, 26 February 1987)

Panel 1: Later that day, we find the Pattersons in bed. Elly tries to tell John about the odd reaction Anne had to the wonderful news that Connie would be shoving her aside like a dumb bully.

Panel 2: She asks him if he knows what it's like to look in someone's eyes and know what they're thinking.

Panel 3: John gives her the EYES because he's thinking about sex first and telling her "You're going to end up kicking her to the curb so no wonder she's bummed" later.

Panel 4: Since he doesn't immediately state that Annie is crazy and stupid for accurately predicting the future, she gets angry at him for not listening.

Summary: Elly is still probably trying to figure out what made Anne sad that day owing to having a baked potato in her skull as a substitute for a brain. Also, John never quite manages to remember that he can never wink at a worried woman.
