Annie proves Lizzie wrong by realizing that Elly is also playing friendship politics and she just came up the loser.

(Strip Number 4771, Original Publication Date, 25 February 1987)

Panel 1: As Annie washes up, Elly sputters her way into trying to smooth things over because she doesn't want Annie to think that she's going to be on the outside looking in.

Panel 2: After all, they've grown close during the years wherein Connie was absent.

Panel 3: She then makes a promise she doesn't really keep about having two best friends.

Panel 4: Annie thought-bubbles that they both know that said title will be a lie as Connie will outrank her best friend-wise.

Summary: The interesting thing about this is that this strip marks the steady decline of Annie as an influence in the strip. In about five years, she might as well be sharing a box with Thelma Baird.
