Mike doesn't really think that Elly can follow Lizzie's confused train of thought any better than he can.

(Strip Number 1117, Original Publication Date, 18 February 1987)

Panel 1: As Mike tries to do his homework, Lizzie comes along and asks him what happens if you don't like one person one day and like them the next.

Panel 2: She tries (and fails) to clarify her statement by saying it's a case of her not thinking that she liked someone but liking them after she thought she didn't.

Panel 3: Since she's picked up on his confusion, she asks if he thinks Mom would know.

Panel 4: He doesn't think it to be very likely.

Summary: This is because Elly might not speak "Torrent of consciousness"; were it not for the fact that Elly doesn't change her mind about anything, if Lizzie were to slow down and ask "What happens if you change your opinion of someone?", she'd be golden.
