Lizzie has difficulty understanding how to pour liquids into a glass owing to being fairly new at doing things for herself.

(Strip Number 6661, Original Publication Date, 18 January 1987)

Panel 1: We find Lizzie in the kitchen looking for something to open the can of juice on the counter.

Panel 2: She smiles as she finds a can opener.

Panel 3: She strains a bit as she opens the can.

Panel 4: As Elly looks on in concern, Lizzie frowns because the juice is coming out very slowly.

Panel 5: Elly asks her if she's having trouble getting the juice to pour.

Panel 6: She then explains that air has to go into the can to replace the liquid coming out.

Panel 7: This means that she has to punch another hole in the top of the can.

Panel 8: Lizzie's response is to say "Oh" because she's never opened a can by herself before.

Panel 9: She again strains to punch a hole in the lid.

Panel 10: Lizzie stares on in confusion as the juice flows out of both holes onto the counter instead of into her cup. This is because she's depicted as having put the air hole a hand's breadth from the first one and is trying to pour from between the holes.

Summary: This, I should think, is Lynn's trying to make sense of Katie doing something a lot like this. I can understand that the juice would spill out of the can onto the floor even if she'd put her cup under a hole because they are only inches apart but Lynn doesn't seem to have picked up on that.
