(Strip Number 4738, Original Publication Date, 3 January 1986)
Panel 1: After she shoves her eyeballs back in their sockets, Elly expresses her confusion and surprise that Connie proposed to Greg. Connie replies by saying "It was beautiful, El. I took him to a fancy restaurant and just before dessert, I gave him a watch."
Panel 2: She goes on to say that she said "Greg, I want to spend every hour with you for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?"
Panel 3: Since this still rocks Elly's world, she asks Greg if he agreed on the spot.
Panel 4: When Greg teases her saying he had to say 'yes' or she would have taken back the watch, Connie does a slow burn.
Summary: Why is it that men in this strip can't be serious about matters like this? Are they afraid of sincerity peering through the wisecracks? Also, whence comes the belief that Elly is remotely the sort of person that can be called "El"?
