(Strip Number 1235, Original Publication Date, 15 December 1986)
Panel 1: We find Lizzie trying to write a wish list to Santa but it's not going well because it takes them another three and a half years to realize that she's near-sighted. Since this hampers her ability to read and write and spell well, she asks Mike how to spell 'tape recorder' because Dick and Jane haven't covered that word yet.
Panel 2: She then asks him how to spell 'kitchen set', 'Space Babe' and 'felt pens' because words are all a confusing blur to her.
Panel 3: When she asks him how to spell something else, he walks off in frustration and tells her to look them up.
Panel 4: Since she doesn't know how to sound out words, Elizabeth gives up and asks if Santa has a 1-800 number.
Summary: This is supposed to be about how children have become jaded but it looks more like a thing about how Lizzie can't read because they're teaching her incorrectly. For instance, a competent teacher who doesn't rule by humiliation would suggest that Lizzie see an optometrist.
