Lynn gives in to her love of horrid wordplay when a quest to find a stand for the tree is discussed.

(Strip Number 4728, Original Publication Date, 11 December 1986)

Panel 1: John complains about the Christmas Tree stand Elly bought because it couldn't support a toothpick.

Panel 2: She explains that she had looked everywhere but only Custer's Cash 'n' Carry had one.

Panel 3: John makes the stupid pleading gesture when he asks why she didn't look for a sturdier one. She says that she did.

Panel 4: When she says that this was Custer's last stand, John does a bit of a slow burn.

Summary: He's probably joined by people at the Syndicate lamenting the fact that one of the people in their roster thinks it's her job to teach people to talk like a hoser. That's because this is yet another in a series of untranslatable strips. Heh. Maybe we should ask for a collection of gags that other cultures won't get.
