John responds to Elly's boasts about how Phil is perservering by stating that he wishes to be rid of the noisy disruption that is trumpet practice.

(Strip Number 4710, Original Publication Date, 11 November 1986)

Panel 1: We find ourselves in the kitchen watching John watching Elly making cookies. As she does so, she tells John that she finds Phil's persevering with Mike's music lessons despite the difficulty involved admirable.

Panel 2: As she stirs the mix, we hear discordant noise coming from the den.

Panel 3: After this last burst of atonal sound, she comments to John that the trumpet is a truly beautiful instrument.

Panel 4: When John agrees and tells her that they should nail it over the fireplace, Elly is shocked.

Summary: I'm almost with John on this one. They aren't really getting anywhere so it's probably time for the music lessons to come to an end. I just don't like his tone because he wants to destroy something just to make his own life easier.
