John tells a baffled Elly that the problem is not that children want to grow up too fast but that today's parents are suckers who are too lenient.

(Strip Number 4688, Original Publication Date, 1 October 1986)

Panel 1: Elly subjects John to her panicky wailing about how children are growing up too quickly these days.

Panel 2: It terrifies her that six year olds are in nylons, makeup, adult hairstyles and the latest fashions when they should behave like children instead of small adults.

Panel 3: John explains that it's just simple peer pressure.

Panel 4: After all, all the other sucker parents are letting their kids do that.

Summary: John might not be overly generous to the children of the world but he is right about the parents being the problem. As TLC showed us, it's crazy grown-ups responsible for the atrocity that is the child beauty pageant and crazy grown-ups behind hooker couture for elementary school kids.
