Mike finally realizes that the Middle Years are encroaching because Lizzie is acting like all the other girls who still confound adult Mike.

(Strip Number 4684, Original Publication Date, 26 September 1986)

Panel 1: Elizabeth shows Michael her the new pony tails and ribbons that Elly made to match her shirt.

Panel 2: She thinks they are beauty-ful and pretty.

Panel 3: She screams "Don't Touch!" when he tries to touch them because she remembers that he's a malicious dick who'd mess them up for shits and giggles.

Panel 4: Michael feels that the trouble with little sisters is they turn into GIRLS.

Summary: As I've said, Michael never really does gain any sort of insight to how women think owing to the entitlement and male privilege thing he's rocking. What generally happens is that when any similarity between his good cowering behind preserving his credibility with the guys and Martha's bad preserving hers with the girls is hinted at is a baffled claim that that's different because the alternative is admitting he's being unfair. Since he's the best kid ever and since the default setting for humanity is "white heterosexual male," Martha was in the wrong to challenge him.
