Today, John is evil because he knows a doomed cause when he sees it.

(Strip Number 4677, Original Publication Date, 18 September 1986)

Panel 1: Elly tells John that she doesn't care what he or anyone else thinks because she's determined for fight for the theatre.

Panel 2: She then asks if he's behind her or not.

Panel 3: He says that yes, he's way behind her.

Panel 4: He then thought-bubbles that it's the safest place to be when the crowd starts hurling stuff at the crank who starts yelling "Theater, yes, hockey, no."

Summary: The old John would have played the 'there, there' card on her. The new John remembers that Elly will not be deflected from things and thus is hunkering down to avoid getting caught in the shrapnel.
