According to Lynn herself, this strip in which Elly watches over her family before going to bed marks the end of the Early Years.

(Strip Number 1081, Original Publication Date, 23 August 1986)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Elly silently saying goodnight to a sleeping family; she starts by kissing Michael good-night he snuggles his teddy bear.

Panel 2: She smiles as Elizabeth snuggles her stuffed bunny.

Panel 3: A few minutes later, she gets into bed and turns off the lignt.

Panel 4: She then snuggles John because the family is together, home and safe after John's nearly tragic canoe trip.

Summary: This is a rather pleasant note to end the arc on. As for it being the cut-off point for the Early Years, I'm not so sure. We're in for more of a transition than anything else. Things don't cut off so neatly in real life and they don't do so here either.
