Summary: Once again, Lynn's need to defend the premise that GOOD people who aren't trying to scare her should live lives of such superlative dullness that they don't even notice that they've died has blinded her to the broader implications of her re-telling of the story. The lake up North was remote and took time to get to. The island is close enough to civilization that it's thought of as a campground. The men up North were in actual danger through no real fault of their own despite what she might believe. John and Phil willed this hardship on themselves being stupid.
