The thing is, if I were the focus of this kind of ceremony, I would probably be so overwhelmed that I would break down crying. It would make it so hard for me to leave. This whole business of being honored just before she leaves only serves to further the impression that this is an extension of Liz's college experience. Instead of a junior year abroad, or a summer in Tibet or South America, Liz spends two years in a Native village, and leaves on a high note, with many memories to cherish. She's had her adventure, and now it's time to settle down to a white-bread suburban existence. Grr.
And are we ever going to find out Liz's spirit name?!
