We begin the camping trip arc with a reminder that evil Michael evilly tunes out the loving, gentle advice of his poor, enfeebled mother.

(Strip Number 4638, Original Publication Date, 23 June 1986)

Panel 1: For some reason or another, Phil has made the scene. He tells Elly that he heard the interview she gave and thinks that saving the town hall is a great idea.

Panel 2: He tells Elly she sounded authoritative and bets she can make people sit up and listen. As he does, Elly's attention is diverted by something horrific.

Panel 3: Said something is a Mike that she had previously told to get off the couch.

Panel 4: Given that his reaction is one of confusion, this power of making people listen is lost on couch hogging Michael.

Summary: This power of making people listen will also be lost on Phil when Elly suggests that he and John get a guide because they're going to the back of beyond; this is because people only seem to listen to stuff they want to listen to.
