Today, Annie is a patronizing jerk because she wants Elly to live in a world of injustice in which the reason her family doesn't replace the toilet paper is that she's somehow made that 'her' job.

(Strip number 6657, Original Publication Date, 22 June 1986)

Panel 1: We find Elly in the washroom folding a hand-towel when she notices that someone has neglected to replace an empty roll of toilet paper.

Panel 2: The conflict starts when she thought-bubbles "Not AGAIN!!"

Panel 3: A little while later, we find her at Annie's place pointing out that there are four people at her house but she seems to be the only person capable of changing the toilet paper when the roll is emptied.

Panel 4: Also, why is she the only person capable of tossing out empty shampoo bottles.

Panel 5: Furthermore, why does no one else fill salt and pepper shakes, clean out the dog's dish or empty the dishwasher.

Panel 6: She sums up by asking why no one seems to care.

Panel 7: Annie responds by patting Elly on the head.

Panel 8: When she tells Elly that this happens because she does the caring for them, Elly is gobsmacked.

Summary: This is because Annie has both answered her question and failed to answer it. We know that when Elly is not present, they do chores but we don't know why they never seem to want to make her feel as if her life matters worth a damn. It's as if the idea of praising her while she's alive would somehow ruin her.
