We end the week with John wishing that Mike hadn't stolen his line about how life keeps getting harder the older you get.

(Strip Number 1053, Original Publication Date, 20 June 1986)

Panel 1: We find ourselves watching Lizzie tell Mike that she gets to attend first grade in September; he says that's nothing because he's a fifth-grader (again) this autumn.

Panel 2: He then gets all snotty about how she only thinks first grade is tough and then plays the "just wait until you get up to where I am" card.

Panel 3: As he does the family finances, John thought-bubbles about how strange it is that Mike just said what he was going to tell both of them.

Summary: While he has something of a point, we all know that John would resent having Jim come along and tell him how tough it is being a retiree.
