Jean repeats the party line about how while children are horrible burdens that hate their poooor mothers and will only ever entertain the possibility that the woman they selfishly thought of as their slave deserved to be treated better long after she's died of thankless work, not having them makes you a selfish failure of a woman.

(Strip Number 4603, Original Publication Date, 24 April 1986)

Panel 1: As she hands Elly a sort of flier from the day care center, Jean explains that it's going to cost her a fortune to keep Brittany in daycare.

Panel 2: Elly says that factoring in this with the price of gas, it doesn't make much sense for her to come back to work.

Panel 3: Jean counters by saying that it makes less sense for her to stay home and go crazy.

Summary: Does any woman in this strip really like being around children? Most of them react like kids are little monsters who are trying to destroy them but all of them agree that they simply have to have them so it's something of a conundrum.
