We end the week (and, oddly enough, come to the last daily to be collected in a treasury) by watching Elly get all gobsmacked because Ted and Irene have chosen to ignore her horrible behavior. This looks like graciousness but could well be the result of their expecting John's wife to act like a total farmer.

(Strip Number 4587, Original Publication Date, 22 March 1986)

Panel 1: We find ourselves at Ted's office watching Elly apologize to him and Irene about the wisecrack she made the other day.

Panel 2: She states that it was crude, inappropriate and she feels terrible about it.

Panel 3: She then gets all melodramatic about how she's died a thousand deaths and wished a million times that she's never said it.

Panel 4: When Ted and Irene ask her what wisecrack she's talking about, Elly gets all gobsmacked.

Summary: This is possibly because the alternative would have been to tell her that they sort of expected her to stick up for Connie because of the whole mess from last year.
