Mike brainlessly sabotages himself by making a lie of Elly's assumption that he's actually going to grow up any time soon.

(Strip Number 1028, Original Publication Date, 15 March 1986)

Panel 1: Elly is impressed to find the table set and the carrots cooking when she comes home.

Panel 2: She says that's there's nothing like a helpful, grown-up kid pitching in when it's needed.

Panel 3: She then praises him for turning into a mature, responsible person.

Panel 4: Her joy is short lived when Michael makes the immature gesture of sticking his tongue out at Lizzie and going "NYAAAHHHH!!!" like a five-year old.

Summary: The interesting thing about today's strip is that we get notes about how the Pattersons had started to become more fleshed-out as characters. The other interesting thing is that Lynn seems to be completely unaware that she did a poor job of actually showing it.
