Today's strip highlights why it is that Lynn quit as a dental assistant. Simply put, she is too damned fragile and snippy to deal with professional behaviour and expects to be constantly reassured that she's valued.

(Strip Number 4577, 5 March 1986)

Panel 1: As he and Elly work on ensuring that Phil will have a career after she's done reminding us why they don't just hire any random nincompoop off the street to be a dental assistant, John asks her for any number of surgical instruments. Since he's being professional and she doesn't know what that is, she's getting increasingly agitated.

Panel 2: When he asks for the restorative and resin kits, she bellows "WAIT A MINUTE!!!" and comes to a dead stop.

Panel 3: John instantly thinks something is terribly wrong and asks Elly what the terribly wrong thing is.

Panel 4: Pious Imbecile Elly frostily complains he hasn't once said please.

Summary: It probably won't surprise you to learn that the notes are a whiny, passive-aggressive chunk of verbiage about how evil and wrong Rod was for trying to keep things professional when his one job was to clearly to make Lynn feel good about herself.
