Panel 1: As they turn in for the night, we find Marian telling Jim not to be so upset because he didn't mean to do any damage to the house and was also just trying to help.
Panel 2: Since she tends to confuse the fear of confrontation she's instilled in Elly with actually being okay with things, Marian tells him that John and Elly aren't angry with him when it's obvious to us that John is still royally pissed off but been prevented from saying so; she then says that anyone could have put their foot through the ceiling because it was sort of shoddily constructed.
Panel 3: She then asks him why he's angry at himself.
Panel 4: When he half-bellows that someone has to be angry with him, she gets confused.
Summary: This is because she doesn't quite understand the need people have not to feel like stumbling fools when they make mistakes like this.
