Panel 1: Now that Elly's got the plywood over to Jim, she tells him to put his other knee onto it.
Panel 2: He cannot do so because his leg is still stuck.
Panel 3: Marian helpfully suggests removing his shoe because it's too rigid to slip through the hole.
Panel 4: Mike looks at Jim in his stocking foot and evilly injects levity into a major crisis and not at all a completely absurd situation by calling it the ugliest chandelier he's ever seen.
Summary: Mike ends up paying for trying to make light of a situation instead of acting as if every little thing is actually the end of the God-damned world. Sooner or later, he too will make every little God-damned thing into a full-on catastrophe and not laugh at absurdities.
