Today's strip is interesting not because Elly makes a very weak joke that's only 'funny' because of what John was saying. Today's strip is interesting because Lynn admits that she had to put some effort into tracking down the thing because she tossed the original version out.

(Strip Number 11144, Original Publication Date, 29 December 1985)

Panel 1: We start things off with Elly almost dropping a casserole dish because she's been surprised by a loud off-camera yell of frustration.

Panel 2: Said shout comes from haggard-looking John who's just stumbled in the house; since he's had another hard day at work, he leads off his rant by gasping "What a day!"

Panel 3: He tells her that it's finally getting to him, this business of fighting the same old traffic to get to the same old job.

Panel 4: He then says that he feels as if he's running through a maze.

Panel 5: When he slumps down into his chair, he compares himself to either a mouse or a rat in a trap.

Panel 6: He then says that all day long, he looks forward to coming up to supper and getting away from that rude word rat race.

Panel 7: She replies by telling him to brace himself.

Panel 8: This is because she's made macaroni and cheese for dinner.

Summary: The odd thing about this one is not the lousy pun but that, as I said, she had to piece it together from old strips she'd had to collect together.
