(Strip Number 4538, Original Publication Date, 28 November 1985)
Panel 1: We find an anxious-looking Elly reading a newspaper article about a famine. As she gets to the part where it's revealed that mothers and children who have to wait in line for their one cup of milk are too weak to stand, she gets more anxious.
Panel 2: Her reading about the fact that starving people are digging into anthills in the hope of finding rice that's been carried off is interrupted by an external source.
Panel 3: Said source is Mike asking what's for dinner because he and Lizzie are starving. This somehow or other makes Elly all gobsmacked because it looks as if she's never once heard a small child say something like that ever.
Summary: This strip is actually part of an industry-wide campaign to raise awareness about the famine in Sub-Saharan Africa....but you wouldn't know it from reading the Lynnsight. She totally blanks on THAT to talk about her experiences and her need to berate her children for being ignorant and indifferent.
