Panel 1: Since John seems to live in a fog, he's genuinely astonished when he sees Elly's poster for the Christmas program and reacts by whining "Christmas time....ALREADY?"
Panel 2: Mike tries dragging Daddy back into the real world by telling him that it's almost December and that they've been running Christmas ads for weeks now.
Panel 3: He then gets all giddy about the ever neat stuff they're selling these days. They've got remote control robots an'dolls who are twins an'videos an'computer software an'dictionaries that'll tell ya the diff'rence between eschew an'issue an'....
Panel 4: Hypocritical Ass John stands there listening to the greedy monster he didn't know he'd raised and wonders what happened to visions of sugarplums.
Summary: The interesting thing about John's wondering where they went is that unlike him, Elly actually remembers that her parents said the same thing to her when she was a kid. John tends to forget that his eyes have always been bigger than his stomach because he's an ass who thinks he's better than he is.
