We come to the home stretch by being invited to a pity party because Elly has to waste time at the arena when there are porches to be swept and left-overs to be disguised.

(Strip Number 973, Original Publication Date, 8 November 1985)

Panel 1: As they head to the car, Mike asks Elly if she's seen the new schedule for the arena.

Panel 2: He's got hockey Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

Panel 3: When he reminds her that Lizzie's got beginner skating on Tuesdays and Fridays, Elly looks as if she's been punched in the gut.

Panel 4: As she clings to a column in an excessively theatrical manner, a bleary-eyed Elly tells us that Eastgate Arena is her home away from home.

Summary: If you think that her stupid reason for not wanting to be there for her kids is stupid now, wait until tomorrow when we're reminded of her real major malfunction. It's bad enough that she whines about the house going uncleaned and having nooooo time to herself without the pettiness we're about to be hammered over the skull with at the end of the arc. Meanwhile, the parents she thinks sympathize with her point, snicker at the drama queen and mumble that there's one of her in every crowd.
