We come to the pay-off of the Deanna acts like a jerk to Mike arc when we have a punch-line dedicated to the proposition that all music written after 1955 booms and is bad and encourages anti-mother love thinking.
(Strip Number 971, Original Publication Date, 31 October 1985)
Panel 1: As the dance wraps us, the Phys Ed teacher gets on the mike to tell the students that while they had a tough choice deciding which of the costumes were the best, they'd decided on Mike and Deanna. Needless to say, the two are shocked.
Panel 2: He then congratulates them and asks them to lead off the next dance.
Panel 3: As the evil headache music booms in the background, Deanna delivers the last line of dialogue she'll have until she wakes up in a hospital room after falling asleep at the wheel by reminding us that she's not speaking to Mike.
Panel 4: He delivers HIS last line of dialogue ever by asking why that could possibly matter given that the evil mother-killing music that booms and is bad is so loud, no one can hear anything anyway.
Summary: Any Lynnsight will be all about how today's music is loud, booms and is not good because it's not Bobby God-damned Curtola and the other drippy crooners who stole from black people while they drooled treacle into the ears of mushheads like Lindy Ridgway.
