Today's strip is an annoying attempt at celebrating cultural diversity that ends with a reminder that to Lynn, the default setting for humanity is "White Anglo-Saxon Protestant."

(Strip Number 939, Original Publication Date, 13 September 1985)

Panel 1: As they set the dinner table, Mike asks Elly if Brian and his family are Japanese. Elly says that they're Japanese-Canadians.

Panel 2: She then explains that his grandparents come from the UK and the Netherlands making him Anglo-Dutch Canadian.

Panel 3: Upon learning of this, Mike gasps "I am?"

Panel 4: When he says that he thought that before this, he was just a regular kid, Elly stands there like a galoot.

Summary: For those of you who remember that both sets of grandparents were Canadian-born, let's not forget Lynn's very real need to have her characters' elders just come off of the boat. She thinks it's more Canadian that way.
